Introduction to medical writing

This module captures the variety of documents that medical writers are typically involved in creating, from educational materials to scientific publications and promotional copywriting.

In addition to covering the spectrum of work and the roles of medical writers, discussions focus on the writing process itself and adapting writing styles to meet the needs of the target audience.

Pre-recorded talks focus on an introduction to pharmaceuticals and clinical studies.  

Med comms and medical education

This module provides an overview of med comms and medical education, highlighting the differences between promotional and non-promotional writing.

Discussions cover the target audiences and key stakeholders for med comms.

Medical advertising and healthcare copywriting

This module covers the fundamentals of medical advertising, including how it differs from non-promotional content, as well as the work that medical writers are typically involved in creating (adverts, e-detail aids and leave pieces).

The importance of clear, compelling and compliant messaging is highlighted. 

Writing for patients and the public

Explore the wide range of materials crafted by medical writers that fall under the category of publications, from clinical trial manuscripts to abstracts and posters submitted to congresses.

We focus on being able to identify the most relevant publications to support copy being written for med comms and promotional content to ensure materials are accurate and up to date. 

Introduction to using and writing publications

Within this module we introduce writers to the wide range of materials crafted by medical writers which fall under the category of publications, from clinical trial manuscripts, to abstracts and posters submitted to congresses.

Data checking, editing and approval systems

This module highlights the importance of quality control in writing medical content, to ensure materials are of high-quality, compliant and meet client expectations. It provides an overview of the review process and introduces the concept of approval systems and their importance.

English skills and storytelling

Effective storytelling is key to crafting impactful medical content, in this module we explore how to develop a strong story from a brief and the importance of addressing the target audience and their needs through clear and precise copywriting.

The use of clear and correct English language is also explored, including the importance of good flow, the anatomy of a sentence structure, and the use of accurate grammar and punctuation.

Interpreting briefs

This module explores the importance of good communication skills to aid in the delivery of high-quality content, that aligns with the expectations of the service users.

We cover how to fully interpret a brief, manage deadlines and client expectations.
